I recently read an article that said one of the most important aspects of a social media manager is a sense of humor. I couldn’t agree more. I have been in some interesting positions as a community manager, such as being cussed out by a follower or mediating a break up on a public Facebook page. I find when you are in unfavorable situations, you can’t take it too seriously. Humor sells.
There are quite a few companies that are kickin social media’s butt, with an added sense of comedy. Just look at the Old Spice & Taco Bell Twitter war, it went viral in just a few hours.
Enough with big biz nonsense, I want to point out some Cincinnati companies that entertain me and also do a great job of informing there fans.
First of all, they post a “Badass of the Week”, yup. Second of all, they are consistent and always keep fans up to date on menu changes and events. Thanks, Bakersfield, you are my badass of the week. See what I did there?
King’s tagline is “Let’s Get Weird” and their Facebook respectfully represents that. There is a mixture of Justin Beiber & 50 Cent along with event postings and drinks specials. I think this picture says it all.
The description on their Facebook page, “We are a southern destination for copious creatives, purveyors of dissidence and proponents of the uncommon.” Yeah, you just know. BLDG does a great job of combining humor with promotion, their print work is phenomenal! 3D mullets say what??
From The #1 Most Important Thing to look for in a Social Media Manager:
We respect those who make us laugh, or at the very least people who appreciate good humor.
Customers — your fans — appreciate companies who can see the funny qualities in a meme, and at the very least can share something that will brighten their day and add joy to their social media experience.
Marketing used to be about tricking your customer. Now it’s about entertaining them.
What is your favorite brand to follow on Facebook and Twitter? Cheers everyone!
